Deeba Kazmi

At 32, Deeba is one of the youngest Lead Data Scientists in Fintech today.

After specialising in Mathematics and Economics, Deeba started her career at IBM when data science was in its infancy, allowing her to develop solid fundamentals and understand how data can enable business growth. After IBM, Deeba took on Data Science roles at Citibank, Morgan Stanley, and Experian, which helped her understand the ins and outs of banking and credit risk management. She joined finbots.ai as Lead Data Scientist earlier this year.

Deeba has outstanding technical skills and proves it every day by designing product enhancements and developing better ways to help lenders manage credit risk. In a short time, she has drastically improved the performance of finbots.ai’s transformation credit modelling solution – ZScore, making it the strongest in the industry.

Three things give us the confidence to nominate Deeba for the ‘Women in Fintech’ category:

1. Deeba has a higher purpose of democratising financial inclusion. Throughout her career, she has explored and created many credit models and statistical techniques to give lenders confidence in lending to low-income and underserved customers (such as women entrepreneurs). By developing the most accurate credit models possible, she knows that the underserved will have a better chance of getting credit vs traditional models.

2. Deeba is exceptionally well-rounded. She has excellent technical AI, Machine Learning and Data Analytics skills, a deep understanding of business and strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with stakeholders – internal & external. She can effectively lead and manage business discussions, technical implementations, and risk modelling.

3. In her position, it would be easy to take a back seat. Instead, Deeba focuses on constant improvement by studying the latest in AI and Machine Learning and testing new ideas or concepts to improve finbots.ai’s products and her technical skills. She goes above and beyond what is necessary, always aiming to do good for the customer and the business.

Not only is Deeba extremely accomplished, but she is also humble and a team player. Her dedication to bettering herself is second to none. Combined with her great attitude, people management skills, and understanding of business, I believe Deeba deserves recognition as one of Singapore’s Women in Fintech.
