When I moved to Singapore in June 2021, I found myself in unfamiliar territory. The fintech scene in Singapore was thriving, but navigating its complexities in a foreign country was both exciting and daunting. Then, in March 2022, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Shiyan Koh, a connection that would profoundly shape my journey here. From our very first meeting, Shiyan welcomed me into her salon—a dynamic and uniquely curated group of women leaders in fintech, technology, venture capital, and private equity who gather monthly. This wasn’t just a casual networking group—it was a carefully assembled collective of sharp minds and seasoned professionals, each driven by a passion for innovation and progress in their respective fields. We would dive deep into topics ranging from fundraising strategies and market trends to partnerships and overcoming challenges unique to women in fintech. The insights shared were thought-provoking, often changing the way I viewed the industry and my role within it. More than just exchanging ideas, we challenged and pushed each other to grow. “The relationships I forged within this group have been invaluable, not just for networking, but for personal growth and for broadening my perspective on what it means to be a woman leader in fintech.” Shiyan’s leadership goes beyond just bringing us together. She is meticulous in curating the group, ensuring that each member brings a unique perspective and value to the table. During our discussions, she has an incredible ability to guide the conversation, ensuring we stay focused on the most meaningful insights. Outside of these in person meetings, she leads a vibrant WhatsApp group where advice flows freely—whether it’s on strategic decisions, potential partnerships, or navigating the challenges of a male-dominated industry. 'She has fostered real bonds and cultivated an environment where we uplift and empower each other. Her efforts have significantly contributed to building a strong, connected community of women leaders who are making waves in fintech and beyond.'
